If you want to work out a percentage of a number-:

Get your percentage, in this case 20%, then divide it by 100, this will give 0.2.
Now multiply this number by the other, in your case 30.

So we have-:

(20 / 100) = 0.2

30 x 0.2 = 6

In the future anytime you have something asking the percentage of something else you take the % number (in this case 20%) and put it in the form a decimal. Because 20% is 1/5 out of a 100 it can be written as .20, because 20/5 = 100.

Another example is what is 60% of 100. Here you would take the percent number 60 and turn it into a decimal (.60) and then multiply that by 100. { .60 * 100 } = 60.

The key to doing these problems is if you are using a calculator or the pencil, is to make sure you have the decimal included in the answer and lined up right in your multiplication.

6, becuase you divide 20% by 100 and you get 5, and you divide 30 by 6 and you'll get the same answer, 5.

20x5=10
6x5=30

20% of 30 is 6.
