yes, well in my school I have to take English, maths, science (applied, single or double award), Spanish (or another modern language), religion, citizenship (1/2 a GCSE), ICT and two other options. Options are any other subject or an additional science i.e; geography, history, technology, art, PE...

The number of compulsory GCSEs varies from school to school, in some schools religion is not compulsory, but in most Church schools it is. Also the most able students can choose other GCSEs offered to them, like another language or statistics.

Yes, English, Maths and Science are considered 'core' subjects and must be undertaken.

Other subjects are compulsory too but with a choice (eg Humanities are compulsory but you can choose between History, Geography and Religious Education).

You are LEGALLY obligied to do the following at GCSE and your school HAS to enter you for:-
English Literature
English Language
Maths
a Language
and 2 Sciences

I am home-ed and I have to definatley take english, maths and at least on science, it is the same with my friends and they are at school.
