This will all depend on where the person was shot. NOT on if the person is obese or not. I mean if you're shot in the head it doesn't matter. Also what caliber gun is used. If you use a .22 caliber, or a .25 caliber your chances are better at survival. BUT I you get shot with a .9mm or a .45 caliber you may very well have some serious problems. Like in a chest shot or head shot. But in the leg or arm good survival rate.

I would think that thin people have a better chance at surviving the surgery needed to remove the bullet.

Many factors have to be considered beside body size. Things like the type of bullet, it's velocity, where it strikes, how much damage it does after penetrating,etc.
