It's not a risk register - it's called child protection.
read this:
What is the Child Protection Register?
The Child Protection Register, held by Social Work Services, is a list of the names of children who are thought to be at risk of abuse and who require the agencies to work together to ensure safety and protection. The Register acts as an alert that these children need special consideration.
Why is my child’s name on the Register?
Your child’s name will be placed on the Register if there are significant concerns about his/her safety and well-being. A Child Protection Plan is then agreed as a way of trying to address these concerns. Only a Child Protection Conference can place your child’s name on the Register. The Senior Social Work Officer (Team Leader) makes the final decision about it. You will receive a copy of the decisions and recommendations that form the basis of the Child Protection Plan.

I'm sure that a risk register means that they are going to keep a very close eye on your son if your ex partner is going to be in your life again. That's due to your ex partner pushing your son out of the way, obviously the social workers thought that your son may be at risk for becoming injured by your partner.
They want to know that your son is going to be safe around your partner, if they even think that your son is going to be harmed by your partner in any way they may take your son away from you.
One must always be careful to choose people/partners who are going to be of a benefit to your children's lives, not some one who will harm them or end up getting them removed from your home and you.
Personally if it were me, I wouldn't take back the ex partner if it could mean loosing your son. After all your ex partner did push your child out of the way as you put it. If your partner did it once then your child is at a higher risk of becoming hurt again. Meaning if your partner does it again the social worker isn't going to play around they will remove your child.
It may be time to choose who is more importatant to you, your child or your partner. Seriously if you even have to think about that, then there is really some thing wrong with you!! And maybe you don't deserve to have your son with you. Keep your ex partner just that, an ex partner and you will keep your son home with you safe where he belongs.

Hi, been there done that. What that means is that they will say that he is a danger to the kids and they will threaten that if your with him the children will need protection. They will watch you like a hawk and get into all your business like your really doing something wrong when your not. These people play games with people lives and destroy family's. Just know your rights and fight back. Don't let them scare you or try and take your children. That's what it means in Canada anyways.
Good luck.

Who has access to it?
The Register is highly confidential and only staff from the main agencies can have access to it, for example Social Work, Police, Health and Education.
What information is held on it?
your child’s legal name, the name he/she is known by, date of birth, address, brothers and sisters
information about important relatives -relatives’ details are kept in case arrangements have to be made for your child’s care
your own details
a note of any previous registrations and/or child protection investigations
information on what the concerns are about your child’s care
What if I disagree with the decision to place my child’s name on the Register?
You can appeal this decision by writing to the Area Services Manager. There is a form available which you can complete which your social worker can help you with. If you would like to make a suggestion, comment or complaint about any part of the service you have received from Social Work Services please speak to a member of staff at your local office. You could also pick up a leaflet called ‘Suggestions, comments or complaints about Social Work’ at your local social work office, which explains how to comment in writing or by phone.
When will my child’s name be removed from the Register?
Your child’s name can only be removed from the Register by the Senior Social Work Officer (Team Leader) at a Review Child Protection Conference. Review Child Protection Conferences are usually held every three months, although this may vary. If there is no longer serious concern and it is felt that a Child Protection Plan is no longer needed then your child’s name will be removed.
Sometimes it may be felt that continuing involvement of Social Work Services and/or other agencies will be necessary and helpful. If this is the case your co-operation will be sought.

Risk register means that your son is in a risk environment. That would also mean you'll get more visits from the social welfare staffs to ensure your son's safety.

a risk register is where they have the right to take a child away from a home if they think the child is at risk.

It means that you will get frequent visits from DHS your b/f has done this, and if anything happens to your kids they will be taken away..You should not want a man that is abusive i believe there is also something else you are not saying because DSS would not get involved just because of that..
