He just happened to be there when it happened. His name and face were in the paper and TV. The American public aren't known for being the brightest bulbs on the tree, they tend to be easily manipulated by TV. I'm American so don't take it offensively, it's the sad truth.

I'm sure there's some secret behind-the-scenes reasons, but you gotta figure that Giuliani didn't want to press the Republican party to nominate him over the sitting president Bush. Also, he did some great things for New York City, including cleaning up Manhattan and making it a much more family-friendly area -- 9-11 gave him an incredible amount of publicity, and now that New York City has pretty much recovered, Giuliani has the time to campaign for himself.

Guiliani slashed the crime rate in New York and cleaned up many internal problems of the city. New York has the population and budget and problems of a small country. So he certainly has more experience than many.

And, "NO", not everyone could have rallied the population like he did during 9/11. That was true leadership. And after all, that is an important component of what a President does...lead.

9-11 was a long time ago. And a lot has changed since then. Giuliani also did a lot of great things for NY and changed the city entirely. He is by far the best candidate to be running on either side. If he is tough on illegals he will get my vote for sure.

Well he happen to be in the right place at the right time, kinda like Bush.. 9/11 was quite convenient for both them..

Giuliani is against self defense.

Guliano has mob connections and looks as good in drag as he does in a suit.

You can have a First Lady AND a President all rolled up in one sleazy rather perverted individual who somehow might add more dignity to the presidential position than the current Prez.

What a concept!

Rudy looks lovely in mauve. I wonder who does his lipstick!

Nor was Eisenhower considered for president until after WW2, nor Grant before The Civil War. etc. Great events thrust men (or women) onto the broader stage, thus revealing their character for all to see.
