Is an easy way out for rapists and murderers?
I'd like to see or have them suffer, rather than give them a quick meaningless death. Some form of bad torture that they'd take they're own live's...or beg for their lives to be taken. Yes i like the idea of leaving the families of the victim with the culprit in a room with an axe.... but... whats your view?

So how would castration for rapists sound?
I have always, all my life thought that men who rape and abuse women sexually should, in the first instance be castrated - have their manhood removed.
then perhaps some community service, away from women and children but living in a hostel and working as manual labor for an extended period
That would affect them directly and make others think twice about doing the same or similar things.
ALSO
at the same time will someone please, please tell African men that they can't actually get rid of their HIV by having sex with a virgin!

I wish there was another way, but if you check prison hasn't helped much has it especially for these heavy criminal offenders - rapists, murderers etc. no one is scared of going to prison these days. and that's the reason we've lost count on the many babies, children, women, men who have been senselessly raped and brutally murdered. Because they keep on repeating these gruesome and animalistic offences and each time it's taken a step too far. it's as if we being tested by these animals to see how long before we break or snap and actually do something gruesome to them, like wipe out the whole lot. There is no control in this country, everyone is doing their own thing good or bad. Crime is one of those things that need to be taken under very strict control. In countries like Saudi Arabia, criminal activity is very low, why? because they've put in strict, regulatory measures that ensure that crime is close to non-existence, even petty crime - you'll think twice about stealing an apple and 10 X more if considering raping a 6 mths old baby. In South Africa, you rape and murder my child, we sentence you to a couple of years behind bars, where you have the luxury of a bed, food, water and education at my (the victim) expense and then they (criminals) thank me by repeating the offence (and even far worse than the last one) after they are released. talk about a slap in the cheek. the bastards must hang. We can't live like this, our children are depending on us to live in a secure, happy environment, to protect them and what are we doing - we letting this happen to them. Bastard must hang. let 'em hang high.
I'm a mother and I would KILL with a capital K, I would go stark raving mad if anyone were to harm my babies.
I wonder how our President felt when he saw the news regarding the murdered child.

The death penalty is a must for sure! Trust me, if criminals knew that they were going to get killed if they were caught, they'd think twice about the crime they have in mind! The laws of this country are so pro criminal that the criminals know they will get away with what they do and that is why they do it! Criminals who get caught for 'non-serious' crimes such as theft, house breaking, shoplifting, robbery, all walk free after their court case...why? Because our prisons are packed to capacity and they are not interested in locking up petty criminals! If we had the death penalty, we'd have more rooms in the prisons and more people would not just walk free!! And if Selebi would stop closing down all the successful units in the police force such as SVCU (serious and violent crime unit), The North Eastern Task Team, The Child Protection Unit and few others, there would also be a drop in crime! I strongly believe in the death penalty as well as mob justice as you say! Yes, if a guy rapes a woman, chop his dlck off! If a guy steals, chop his hand off! Crime will go down very quickly! The death penalty may be a quick death, but you are still ridding the country of unwanted criminals. Rather that than nothing! As for police brutality.....I myelf practice it!

I don't know so much that we should have the death penalty...its just that though that person did do something horrible who are we to say that he must die. What will it make us if we kill him in return, it wont bring back the life or fix what has been ruined, it will be revenge. The person should live to relies what he has done and that is probably harsher then killing him. I mean who give us the right to say who lives or who dies, we are not God (if you believe in him). We are better then them and should not lower our selves to their level.
And in any case its not like if it came back that we are going to march 20-30 off to the gallows a day its going to be like 10 or 20 a year, look at the stats for countries with the death penalty. How much of a dent will that make in the hundreds of thousand prisoners we have.
Of course I am an extreme leftist and do not like harsh rules (I believe all people are good a circumstances drive them to do horrible things)

No amount of torture would be enough to make up for what they do. The idea behind a death penalty is not so much to punish the guilty but to serve as a deterrent for those who would consider the same type of crime. And because of the nature of the crime, rehabilitation will never really happen, the death penalty serves to rid law abiding citizens of that menace for good, rather than having him escape by doing a Houdini, simply walking out or serving his sentence and getting out to continue where he left off.
Also, when looking from a genealogical perspective that helps stop the spread of whatever messed up gene caused him to be f_ck up in the first place.

I can tell you this for a fact: the LAPD had a couple of cases where the perpetrator was going to kill the victims but was talked out of it by the possibility of the death penalty.
Everyone says the death penalty doesn't deter, but that isn't always true. It won't make everyone not be a murderer, but it can intimidate some out of randomly taking lives.

Yes, I was in great shock when I heard about Sheldean's death. I feel so sorry for her family and friends. We must get rid of all those sick scums. They don't deserve to live and it needs to be done the professional way namely the death penality. These days more babies and children are reported missing. I heard the reason they kidnap children are because they want to use them as prositutes for the 2010 soccer. I just knew that it wasn't a good idea to host it here.

No, i don't think so,
the murder killed somebody, so he should be killed too, that's the justice, because as the victim's family souffers because of his crime, his family will suffer too when he will be killed, which is totaly logic fair!
seing the killer suffering won't make the victime alive again, it won't bring him back, nor make his family feel better!
God is the only one who can judge him after his death, in Islam, my religion, we believe that the killer should be killed to, i mean the killer who meas to kill poeple, not by accident....and we kill him by the easier way, not by the same way he killed his victim, because God will punish him, but he shoyld die to protect the society from his danger...
all punishement that we applicate in the earth are only to protect the society, and to give a lesson to the other poeple then they won't think of killing poeple or any other kind of crimes...but the real, punishement will be done by God on the Judgment day...

They kill a murderer which is okay...but how they could rape a rapist to do the equal justice?.
I think more involement of victim or the family of victim in punishment is nessesary. When convicted, asked them what punishment they want for the culprit.
