just solve these simple equation and x is the hours it took them
20 miles--> x hours
x+2 --> 20/(x+2)=20/x - 5/6

Start by writing down all the information you have. So,

distance = d = 20 miles
(this stays the same no matter how long it took for them to get there)

time it took them = t
time it would've taken them if they took 2 hours longer = t+2

speed they did go = s
speed if they had taken 2 hours longer = s - 5/6

you also know the formula distance = s/t, so that's also part of your information.

Now, put your information into the formula d= s/t. You should get two separate equations:

20 = s/t and 20 = (s-5/6) / (t+2)

Notice that both equations are equal to 20. So you could say:
s/t = (s-5/6) / (t+2)

Solve this as a simultaneous equation. Remember, your question is asking for how LONG it took them, so what you are looking for is t (time). Good luck!

distance = speed * time is constant
thus 20 = s * t
20 = (s-5/6)(t+2)
20 = (20/t - 5/6)(t+2)
Solve the resultant quadratic equation to get t.

S=vt, so
20=vt

Also:
20=(v-5/6)*(t+2)

Solve: v=20/t, so 20 =(20/t-5/6)*(t+2)

20=20+40/t-(5/6)t-5/3

240-5t^2-10t=0
t^2+2t-48=0
t=6 hours
