In software testing field, what is monkey testing

Monkey Testing : Testing a system or an Application on the fly, i.e just few tests here and there to ensure the system or an application does not crash out.

There is no such testing in software field. Its for fun. dont believe it.
There is only black box testing an white box testing.
The person who is checking might skip of some testing
The incomplete testing ...... can be meant as monkey testing
