has to be Bernard Herrmann's Psycho. Just for strings, it's a masterpiece of economy and mood.

My favs for scary, creepy or moody would be James Horner's ALIENS, James Newton Howard's THE SIXTH SENSE and of course various cues from Howard Shore's THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy.
