I live in Belgium, and am an American.
Belgium lacks the desire to help the rest of the world, unless France is also involved. (Lebanon peace forces)
Belgium lacks big expensive University tuition prices, like the US.
Belgium lacks individual ownership of guns, unless you are a member of a shooting club and totally registered by the police.
Belgium lacks big expensive hospital bills for its residents (socialized medicine!!)
Belgium lacks Cable TV annual fees (now) I get 27 channels for free.
Belgium lacks (97%) tasteless thin beer that can only be sold by bombarding the public with advertising (like Bud, Miller, and Coors).
Belgium lacks reasonably priced homes with a front yard, away from the street.
Belgium lacks enough policemen to patrol daily and stop traffic violations, break-ins, drunk drivers, drugs from Holland over the border.
Hey..need more? Just ask...
PS. NAME some famous people please, I'd like to know after 15 years here.. Eddy Wally?
PPS. BELGIUM has a national army. Some of them are keeping the peace in Lebanon right now. McDonald's restaurants are present in every major city and many other smaller cities, too.
GENERAL DE WITTE: I am familiar with ALL!! on your list. I agree with Mercyx, and the artists from 300 years ago. The rest are just average people. Just average, not famous at all.

Most of all Belgium lacks a big mouth to tell what we are or do !
We have a lot of famous people but nobody knows till we tell the other about our great inventors, painters, ... .
We do help the rest of the world (without France) :
we have troops helping in Afghanistan, Lebanon, Kosovo. Our troops helped already a lot in Africa (our 15th Wing with C130 is considered as one of the finest transport wings of the world, our demining troops have helped all over the world (we have a lot of practise with all the stuff that is left from WWI and II). Our navy got even a recommendation of the US navy about their skill in demining the Golf.
We fought side by side with the US in Korea (with citations by the general commander of UN troops (by the way an American), WWI and II ... but nobody knows.

Nothing
It has land, people, a language, a government, a national anthem, a flag, plants, animals.
The same things every other country has.
And yes Belgium DOES have famous people who come from there, despite some claiming otherwise.
