I have read many websites and magazines and they all give out conflicting advice on what to take to hospital and the lists seem to be endless! What did you take in your hospital bag? Please let me know what you used and what was a waste of time! It would really help if you could let me know quantities of things you used ie, did you take 5 baby vests and use 1 LOL

I am 32 weeks pregnant and thinking of packing just in case, how many weeks would you recommend to be to pack your bag, am I doing it to early??

When I had my first baby, I went with 2 suitcases to have all the stuff that was recommended to be in all the books. I did not use 90% of what I brought. What I did use was several pair of socks, a pair of slippers (for roaming hallways), My own nursing pajamas (I didn't want to wear hospital gowns that fall open in the back), an outfit for the baby to come home in and for you to go home in, bathroom stuff(shampoo, hair brush, etc...). Other than that, the hospital provides everything. They have blankets for the baby, clothes, diapers, pacifiers, formula, and anything else you may need. You may want to bring your own maxi pads if you do not like the giant ones the hospital provides for the bleeding afterwards but that is no biggie. Also, if you want comfort items like music or your own pillow, consider that as well.
I am now expecting my 2nd baby in only 10 weeks and will back the bare minimum because who wants to deal with making sure they still have all their stuff when they leave with the new baby! It's to much hassle!
It doesn't hurt to start packing your bag now because you never know when you will go in to labor. Personally, I think it is a little early but if you are stressing about it, go ahead and do it because added stress is the last thing you or your baby needs!
Good luck!

I had a c-section so I stayed at the hospital longer than you probably will and I took quite a lot of things, but if I had to do it again I would take: more panties, really large and unsexy ones (!) there's a lot of blood that goes away on the 1st days..., a very good book, cause when baby sleeps and you are alone... water spray and some 'eau de cologne' somehow I always felt I needed to smell as good as the baby! , Clothes for going home- true- very important cause I forgot the first time and went home in my pyjamas! You could also do with some biscuits or things to eat between meals. That's all I can think about for the moment. I'd love to be in your place! Enjoy and hold the little one close to you as much as you can, it's an incredible feeling!

Here is a list of things that I was advised to take by the hospital or on websites that I DIDN'T need or use:

For labour:
Icy drinks, sugar drinks etc- water was all i wanted
Massager, massage oil etc- couldn't stand my partner touching me
Ipod, music- concentrating too much on the labour to care about music
Snacks- you most likely wont feel like eating

After labour:
Magazines, books- if you get a lot of visitors like I did you will want to sleep in your free time. Trust me, you will be tired!!
Baby clothes- seriously only take a few outfits in with you. Dont worry about socks, hats and other fiddly bits for the baby, the hospital will have everything you need in terms of blankets and bedding.

Take comfortable baggy clothes. I was unprepared at how big my stomache was after the birth and I took in clothes that were way too small. Dont worry though, your belly will decrease in size heaps within 2 weeks.

Good luck!

i took way too much stuff! even though i had to stay in for longer cos i had a caesar, i still had a lot of stuff i didn't need. just remember that if you don't bring something, your husband or whoever can always bring it for you or the hospital will have it on hand. i took loads of clothes for baby, used only a few of them (in the early days, the last thing you want to do is put fiddly little outfits on baby, just get some simple all in one suits depending on the season). depending on the hospital, but most will provide clothes, basic toiletries, towels and blankets etc, just take something for baby to wear home (with a spare in case). maybe one or two blanket/wraps and some nappies, your toiletries (especially lots of sanitary pads!), your nighties/clothes, again keep it simple, you are not going camping with no hope of getting stuff you forgot! just pack when you are ready to do it. i really hope that you don't go into labour early or anything but if you do it now, then you can always revise later on and take extra or less as you think about it. also, if you have it done, you may feel a bit more relaxed knowing you are ready. my sister had constant panic stricken dreams before birth, not about labour or the baby but about not having her bag packed! good luck!

No your not doing it too early. I didn't get a chance/time to pack my things cause i went into labor at 33 weeks then again at 35 weeks when i had my son. I just didn't think after the first time that it would happen at 35 weeks.

House shoes
Hair bow
Warm socks (to wear in the delivery room)
A nightgown for recovery (one that opens in front if you’re breast-feeding)
Clothing for the trip home
Cosmetics. You probably will be immortalized on film, so pack your comb and brush and your makeup kit. Maybe you’ll get around to using them on the big day, maybe you won’t. But you probably will want to spruce up before visitors arrive
A toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss
Deodorant
Body lotion
A robe
A baby outfit
A receiving blanket
Baby Album (To put the footprints in it)
Cans or bottles of infant formula if you intend to bottle-feed so your baby can start with the brand you prefer
Maxi Pads
Change for vending machines
Car Seat
Camera
Panties

There's no such thinkg as too early, but if it's your first bub you'll probably have plenty of time to pack. (Don't count on it, but most people do). I think the important thing is to look at the list your hospital/ birthing centre provides and use that as a basis, for packing what *you* want with you.
And remember, if it's not too far from home and you know you'll have family visiting, they can always bring you anything you forget.

robe
maternity clothes to go home with
list of phone numbers (just in case your cell phone is a no no
digital camera
nursing bra
huge underwear
shower slippers
baby take home clothes plus blankets, socks, hats
car seat
ipod/magazines/books
snacks for your partner
change of clothes for your partner (sometimes they really don't want to leave u and baby)
wastes
i packed a diaper bag with diapers, bibs and extra clothes. it was a waste only because the hospital was a 8 minute drive and we went straight home from hospital. what did we need the diaper bad for? the hospital also sent us home with extra diapers.
another waste was a sneaker that matched his take home outfit. it wouldn't stay on and plus where was he walking to.
