Question: I'm pregnant and I'm beginning to feel my breasts getting ready for breastfeeding. Is it normal for them to leak a bit?

Answer: Many mothers begin to leak colostrum (sometimes called premilk) while they're pregnant, typically sometime in the third trimester. Other expectant moms don't. Either way, it's normal. You might want to wear nursing pads in your bra to protect your clothes if you're leaking. You can buy these at most drugstores.

Colostrum is a thick, yellowish fluid that contains antibodies that help protect new babies from infections. If you choose to breastfeed, this precious liquid will nourish your baby until your milk comes in. Colostrum has more protein, but less carbohydrate and fat than mature breast milk. It's easy to digest and has just the right amount of nutrients a baby needs in the first few days after birth

Perfectly normal! But what is leaking is called colostrum which is what your body feeds the baby with for the first few days of life before the real milk comes through. If your breasts are feeling uncomfortable, squeeze some out - bathtime is a good opportunity to do this. Its unlikely you will leak through clothes at this stage but if you are concerned you can buy breast pads to place in your bra from any pharmacy/drug store.

Yep, it's normal. It happens to quite a few women. It's just your body getting ready. You can get some breastpads to put in your bra is they are leaking a lot. They are available in the baby aisle.

It should be noted that it's also normal *not* to leak before giving birth, and it has no bearing on how much milk you will produce afterwards or your ability to breastfeed.

completely normal.. with my first son my right breast leaking from very early on.. weird that it was only one.. but.. it also produced more milk than my left breast once the baby was nursing.. so you're normal.. it's only gonna leak more after!!

yes totally normal, my first pregancy I started leaking at 16 weeks and this one at around 18 weeks, pop to mothercare or boots and get some breast pads to save your tops and embarrasing wet patches!
And please ignore the idiots who have answered this.
It is totally normal and acceptable to seek advice from other people about minor things like this in pregnancy, if we called the midwife for every little thing I think they would take their phones off the hook.

Yes this is normal. You might want to get some disposable breast pads to avoid damp patches on your clothes. x x
