Hi,
It is a natural urge like hunger. One needs to think divine about the relationship between a male and a female. Sex plays a very little role (but a must) in the lives of any beings.
It is the human, who has all thoughts to control and respect the other partner in terms of their pleasure out of it.
You will be loved the most, if you respect the partner in your sexual life.
I am sure it is the ultimate zenith of reach for a true lover to have sex with his beloved as a fulfillment of his totality of love.

Why do we "need" it?

It's a basic, normal human function, like breathing. It feels good. It's probably the most enjoyable sensual pleasures humans experience. It's also a way to bond with another human being. It can be a source of personal pleasure, a stress-reliever, a sleep aid, and even a form of meditation.

Given those reasons, why would we NOT need it?

Stress relief. I think more so people need intimacy and human touch. Sex is sex. It isn't actually needed, but is a nice stress reliever. It is a way to show love and add to intimacy, reach a state of Ecstasy. People don't need it though, and if they do it is a psychological thing and it can lead to an addiction.

people are never sure about what they need and what they do not need.... as for as sex is concerned ... in strict terms it is not a need but it is a resource ..some people have achieved great heights by supressing their sex instinct and some have achieved fame by exploiting and practicing it again and again... it is a thing which makes us feel we are human but at the same time it tells us that u can be divine.... it procreates and we procreate it!

Unlike other living things, human sex is not restricted for just procreation. If it is rightly handled, it has a great potential to nurture a deep social bond with love and affection.

They want it but if they could live without it. A need is something you cannot live with out. You won't die if you don't have it. You may be miserable and unhappy, but it's not like food, water, or shelter.
