Life could be like a candle that burns and stays alive, and when it does, it gives forth light, the light to see and also to be seen, for a candle not only sees things but also helps other see better in its presence.
When we seek the meaning of life in words then we attempt to look only into things of life one after another, and know about life only partially, never in entirety, for nothing in life can encapsulate fully the entire meanings of life. The sense of being alive however can be enhanced when we seek and search, and when we follow right paths along our search we get closer to the reality of our existence. The only way we can ever find the meaning of life full is to live it all, to live life to its best right from the beginning to the very end, if there is any.
We all ask this question and seek the answer, some people ask in words while others ask through their actions. When people make an effort, or try their best to accomplish something in good faith in life and wait for the outcome, they in fact ask the same question – is this what life would mean for me? And when they succeed in their efforts they realised that they were right, and that they have understood life a little better, and then they try again, and again. Some people ask the same question when they love, when they hope and aspire. Whereas there are some people along this search who ask the same question in there silence, as they do good service to themselves and to their fellow human being, people who work quietly and learn to live with thankfulness, patience and in acceptance.

Life is here for us to learn, develop and grow but also have fun along the way. Life is a soul journey which we may often take more than once, and is a chance for us to experience different emotions and experiences which are all an important part in development of our spirits. Life is a chance to be able to help others in situations which may not of been able to be created on the 'other side'. Life here is negative as well as positive because on the 'other side' love is all that exists, so we need to lead our life to experience the negative which we can here (not to say life is'nt full of positive as well because it is and these experiences help us to grow also.) Through difficult times we become stronger, through the bad times we learn until its our time to return home when we can then look back and see how much this life as developed us.

41.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 according to Douglas Adams, but I don't believe him. I think the purpose of life is to observe, through all senses, the universe so that it can better understand itself. Because even though we like to think we are individual and separate from the universe, we are not. We are part of the cosmos, the atoms that have come together to form our bodies were here when it all started up and they'll be here when the lights go out. Who can say what information these little particles will carry with them throughout time? And who or what will read that data. So I guess observation is the purpose of life, as to the meaning, well I've got to say I'm damn sure it's 44 - with no decimal place, haha.

You should look in the FAQ's. This question comes so often, is your despair so deep that you don't know that the only purpose in life is to live ?
Write a book ? Paint ? You can be remembered within a few generations (and I'm optimistic here) but what after ?
Life is a gift. Live up to it!

The meaning you give it by what you value. If that is money alone, your life means a pile of pennies. But the quality of life is experience and how you process it. So reflection is the key to it - certainly not dogma or doctrine.

The meaning of life - to be able to wake in the morning and feel, just feel anything at all. To be loved by anyone, to be able to love anyone, to have compassion for your fellow man, to be able to fight for what is right and not have a guilty feeling for what you have done in the heat of the moment, to realise that people that are different from you aren't any worse or better than you. To have the courage of your convictions and most importantly to not critique what you don't understand.
