I was watching it (still) last night. They make a joke about words being derived from Latin, the beginning of blues music, the lunar pull of the moon and Shakespear all in the same episode. This was typical of Dangermouse.

Can you imagine a cartoon made these days crediting the audience with enough intelligence and knowledge to get jokes like these?

Bear in mind, it was only made 20-30 years ago.

Ohhhhhhh yeah. I remember that cartoon. It was on Nickelodeon in the early days along with two other shows that I loved to watch as a kid. Remember Pinwheel, and You Can't Do That on Television? I wish I could see a rerun of those once just for giggles.

I haven't seen that one. I like Asterix the Gaul which is also educational with its accurate references to important historical moments. Plus, the druid Getafix gave some early insites into the setting up of a backyard amphetamine laboratory (magic potion indeed!)

actually i think they made a couple more cartoons like that, try to find some animaniacs, and angry beavers, a lot of the jokes there were made for adults, and people with some form of intelligence, there was also the freakazoid cartoon, i heard that one was the same but i never got to see it.
