Yes.
I tried working on that idea a few years ago, but by my calculations the battery will weigh to much to be practical.

They do make those that run off a car battery using the cigarette lighter outlet.

Yes!

But what I'd really like to have is something that would keep a *whole* cup of coffee hot, rather than just the bottom of the cup like the ones available now --maybe something like the concept used by a slow cooker (crockpot) where the inner container is removable from the surrounding metal heating unit like a coffee cup could be. Maybe the metal sleeve could be ceramic-covered too to make it less hot?

(I'd be happy with either a corded or battery-powdered version of this since I'd mostly be trying to keep coffee-tea hot at my desk, etc., if you'd like to make or market one!)
