Passive is the opposite of active, in that something that is passive without anyone specifically using it. active weapon: sword, someone has to strike out with purpose to kill with a sword. passive weapon: pitfall trap, it simply waits until someone falls in and doesn't require anyone to do anything in particular to make it work.
