I'm pretty sure (and I have tried a few just for the hell of it while bored ...expecting nothing) that almost all the websites out there advertising free stuff are scams. From my experiences it's not generally worth looking unless you're willing to sign up for a bunch of services or strange websites and recieve a ton of junk e-mail. The only way it would be worth a website to send you something for free would be if you recieved a lot of junk e-mails or such on behalf of this website and they were paid by the companies whose advertising was sent to you.

I know a couple of people who have got stuff though the giveaway network in the UK for free. Although I havn't tried myself (yet).

I have received software CDs and they were genuine.
Some sites keep their words.Some sites are very cunning in getting the e-mail address.But they tend to cheat.
ubuntu sites is really genuine.They sent me the CDs and they very good.
