My baby was due March 2nd. The doctors have scheduled me to be induced on Monday. This is my first pregnancy and I've heard that labor induction can be painful. I'm getting freaked out and also I was wondering what are the steps they take at a hospital to do this and when would they give me an epidural if I chose to have one. What are the chances of you having a contraction when they administer the epidural?

I was induced with my baby with pitocin. Everything went well. I was also very scared, because I read that c-section chances are higher. They started me at around 10am. Depending on if you are or not dialated they might have to put gel on your cervix to thin it out. They were going to do it for me, but by the time they got to it, I was already dialated and thinned out without it. Then they put in IV with some salt water to keep me hydrated and pitocin. Contractions started right away, but I didn't fel them much until about 6pm, when they got really bad and close together, so I asked for epidural. Getting epidural didn't hurt compared to the pain of contractions.I had my baby at 5am. But everyone is different. It might take you much less time. Please don't worry. Everything is going to be perfect!

Choose the epidural. I remember the epidural hurt as the needle went in, but the relief after was extreme. I was induced after 20 hours of labor, so perhaps I'm not the BEST person to judge because I was exhausted, but I remember the labor pains were stronger and faster after induction. I had chosen to go without an epidural but ended up having one afte 20 hours.

With my next pregnancy, I asked for an epidural right away, but gave birth before they could get the drugs to my room. That was an EXTREMELY easy birth. I don't know if it helps, but with the 2nd pregnancy, I went shopping when I felt the first labor pain and walked and walked and walked until the pains were 4 minutes apart. The hospital was 2 minutes from the mall and the labor was so easy it was ridiculous. With the first one, I went to the hospital right away and they had me recline.

Good luck!

the epidural is your choise, you dont have to have one. also when you get induced the first step is putting in an I.V or a Drip (they call it a Drip here in Australia) then they get you to lay onto your back and spread your legs and put what looks like a long thin stick with a tiny hook at the end (it kinda looks like a crohae needle; the thing that some people use to knit with) then you will feel presure and some pain, then you will feel the amnotic fluid come out, contractions, then the pushing, then your baby comes out eventually, then you deliver the plasenta and other stuff that was keeping the baby all comphy in the womb, you may tear between the anus and the vagina (which 80% of woman do) you will get stitched up, then you can have a shower, then the I.V or Drip will be taken out, then you will be put into a ruteen with your baby, good luck

Actually, it was no different. The epidural has no effect on the labor, just the pain caused by the contractions.

inducing labor makes the contractions more painful and having the epidural slows down the process of labor.
you will have lots of time to speak to your nurse when you go in to be induced. write down your questions and ask away

hey i was induced and this is what happened;
8am- Got to hospital got put in a labour room and waited!!

10am- Midwive put the gel in...not painful just uncomfy! wasnt allowed to get up for about 40mins-so try to go to the toilet b4 hand even if u feel u dont need to go! Now the fun part waiting!

6pm- Contractions started but irregular, walked around heaps inbetween10am and 6pm inbewtween midwives came in to check on us moniter the bubs all quiet boring lol

10pm- Contractions really starting to p*ss me off lol

12am- Contractions REGULAR 2mins apart hurt but was laughng and joking between them! midwive sat in with me from now on

2am- Pain kinda really hurting tried the gas for 30mins (60%gas 40%oxygen) but was hopeless so gave it up!

6am- Midwive checked to see howmuch i dialated...was plenty so they decided to wait a lil longer get me set up to break my waters..awesome :S

6:20am- Waters broken most disgustiing thing ever lol went all up my back was sitting there for 5 mins saying'EWEWEWEWWWW thats gross EWEWEWWWW' my partner and midwives thought it was awfully amusing lol

6:25am- OH SH*T his coming lol

6:55am- after a few pushes and pants my baby was out *phew* pain gone....wasnt the most handsome thing at 1st but he gotta better with time!

ok so thats how it happened 4 me(there is a drip iv that they also use if 2lots of gel dont work but i went intolabour b4 needing it!) minus a few details lol didnt wanna bore u! i didnt use any drugs besides the 30mins of useless gas, i had it pretty easy it was hard to control breathing but once i got it it was easy! i was lucky didnt get any stitches :D i was pretty happy during the whole ordeal the whole time between pushing and contracting i was laughing and making jokes i think my sense of humour kept me from screaming the hospital down! try to relax dont freak out its a natural thing that our bodies are specially designed to do, it will hurt but u'll live! anywho hope that helps a lil? if u have any questions dont be shy!
