Well, it's really a matter of personal preference. widescreen is better for watching movies and gaming I suppose, however, being that screens are measured diagonally from corner to corner the 19" widescreen would be wider, but not as tall as a regular screen. So going widescreen I would likely go for a bigger screen to make up for the height lose with a wider screen.

I would personally go for the widescreen, just because for productivity, more horizontal space it better, and watching videos looks better :P
A 19" standard means 19 inches from one corner to another.
A 19" Widescreen means the same thing, but the W:H ratio is
16:9 not 4:3

For work, it gives you more room on the sides for other programs (Sidebar XP that looks like Vista) or Yahoo widgets. Can also do work on 2 docs or spreadsheets at the same time.
Fun side: Widescreen movies are superb. Surfing the net is cooler.
Weird Side: Rotate the screen (and your PC) to work on long Spreadsheets, Full page word docs even with all the menu bars taking up so much room, you can still work on a full page at a time. Orrrrrr, maybe looking at the new centerfold full screen
