Can somebody explain this to me

"Neither life nor happiness can be achieved by the pursuit of irrational whims. Just as man is free to attempt to survive by any random means, as a parasite, a moocher or a looter, but not free to succeed at it beyond the range of the moment - so he is free to seek his happiness in any irrational fraud, any whim, any delusion, any mindless escape from reality, but not free to succeed at it beyond the range of the moment nor to escape the consequences."

Thank you

Simply stated, you have to know for certain what it is you want in order to know for certain that you have reached your goal. Reason hinges on the truth and the truth is certainty. Acting on a whim is acting without certainty, without truth, and without reason, hence; acting on a whim prevents you from reaching your goal of true happiness or a true life, assuming such things exist.

Any man has the freedom to seek for his happiness, which to him, is something that satisfies his reasons or something of absolute goodness. In regards, he may have succeeded in this pursuit by any means including good or evil ways but in the end, he will have to take responsibility of his actions whether the outcome is a consequence or an achievement. To seek for happiness includes the decision of what makes a man genuine, the free-will.

You can't pursue things without thinking them out. A man will survive in any way possible, but not beyond the place and time he is in. He is free to seek contentment in any way imaginable, but will reap what he sows.

Selfishness doesn't cut it as a working business philosophy beyond giving momentary pleasure (Which might not actually be pleasure, but just distraction from the sheer pointlessness of it all.)

If you live for yourself and don't take care of the consequences and the effect your actions are having on others you'll never fill your full potential? & although at that moment you'll be happy, it won't bring anything lasting?
