I want to have enough faith and optimism in the U.S. that we aren't in a decline, but if we had to endure another term under W then I would say heck yes!
I TOTALLY agree with you on the fact that we are fighting a war of ideologies. That is what I've been trying to get thru to everyone with my prior answers regarding the occupation of Iraq. Iraq is fighting their own civil war, and unfortunately, we are caught in the middle. What do we have to gain? Absolutely nothing.
I also agree with an earlier post that if we are fighting a war on terror, then we better be ready to fight them right here because the enemy is going to be a bigger threat here because we are much more vulnerable.
Republicans like it when a war is going on because they can direct the funds that would otherwise go into education, social programs, etc., into the war and the military. This is how they can justify the budget cuts in all of these areas.
I cannot stand the reality that over 3.500 troops have been sacrificed in a war that was not necessary. Bush made a pre-emptive strike against a country that had nothing in the world to do with 9/11/01. You cannot tell me that with all the military intelligence we have, we cannot root out the real perpetrator - Osama bin Laden! Has Bush and company just given up on ever catching the real bad guy? I know Democrats are tired of excuses, and I would think even most Republicans would be too.
I don't know how other mothers and fathers feel, but I have a 27 year old son and I don't want it to come down to him ever being drafted. If this war continues, it will eventually have to come down to that because an all-volunteer military can't hold on forever.....

Yes they are on their way out.
Their debt is growing out of this world with many nations owning the notes on it. Then you have countries like China and Russia who are flush with cash and are starting to catch up with the US by beating them at their own game.
I mean, who would have thought China going to a free market system? Bet they wish they did that years ago.
Russia has no debt and has oil reserves coming out their butts. What does the United States have: little if any oil reserves left. No wonder they are in Iraq.
You can beat an idea if it is flawed. But in order to do that, you can not go in there without showing them why. Also, you must practice what you preach.
You must remember that the United States was started as a concept (an idea). Unfortunately, most of us forget this when going into other countries to try to defeat them.
If the United States is to survive as a nation, it must go back to their roots. The country must be honest with itself and ask the hard questions. It must look and listen to ALL sides of the argument before making decisions.
In closing, the 3000 lives lost in Iraq is really not the issue here. Part of the constitution is about life, liberty and justice. Life in this country is cherished and America should not have to apologize for that. They have given enough lives over the wars to prove their resolve. Maybe it is time for another country to step up to the plate now. God knows its overdue.

As a global superpower? once you're talking of a militia superpower, we've in consumer-friendly words began to go back decrease again from the demilitarization complete by bill Clinton. This u . s . of united statesa. suffered the numerous significant decline in militia ability contained in the technique the Clinton years, than ever until eventually ultimately now in it truly is historic past. of route that Hillary AND Obama both have the continuation of prices guidelines deeply rooted of their respective agendas! i have self belief that if John McCain is elected in November the militia will a minimum of stay the similar, if now no longer boost. i imagine of that optimal all individuals does now no longer desire the draft to be more suitable decrease again, yet I trouble that it truly is the in reality way this u . s . of united statesa. is going to stay to inform the tale. a reliable militia is an important element of being and excellent a healthful and effective global chief, and that is no longer being complete by an all volunteer militia centers!

Study the decline of Ancient Rome, there you may find similarities.
It does appear that, since the Vietnam War our tolerance for warfare as a nation has declined. And, our enemies celebrate that idea. The Jihadist are cannon fodder--they will line up to be slain for an ideology.
America, did away with mandatory conscription as a means to placate society. Now, when we need to bring power to bear on the current situation--you candy asses sit at home playing PS3, Xbox, and Wii.
I've served this country as a volunteer and if you want to change the world--serve in the Military.
All these bangers, thugs, and prisoners need to be loaded up on C-130's and dropped in Sadr City--the one's that make it back--can go kick *** another day.
I wonder how tough they really are!

No America is not on the decline, in the face of 9/11 it has stood up and come out fighting, regardless of whether you agree with Bush and his foreign policy. America is part of a coalition in the middle east, but if Britain were to pull out America could and would still stay and fight, Britain couldn't or wouldn't if America left. The US economy is still the biggest in the world, the dollar still dominates over the pound, euro and yen.
Men are dying but the US has a special spirit in its people that is hard to extinguish. Perhaps most importantly is that empires come and go, but they only start to decline when they stop expanding (not just in terms of land, culture, commerce, ideology etc). The USA is far from finished and it will not dye quitely anyway.
Britains graet empire slowly withered away because it lacked financial power, was streched militarily, it's ideology had weakened in its empire and its culture and commerce were rapidly being taken over by the USA. Most importantly was that the British people had lost the desire and fight to sustain a global empire, and thus it was doomed.
Whilst i know that the US and UK both had different types of empire and power, i believe that both countries have a lot to learn from each other still. America is still the greatest country in the world in many eyes and will be at least in our life time.

We are Goosestepping into the 19th Century, with Bush, Cheyney, Falwell and Robertson leading the Parade.
Aside from the West Coast and Northeast, America has become a third world nation with a standard of living lower than most industrialized nations.
It is Scary

America entered the "Great Wars," WWI and WWII, because in both instances we were afraid that Germany would take over Great Britain, France, all of Europe, and finally, the USA.
The young men in those wars fought for not just America, but all of Western Europe. This war was pre-empted by the US for no good reason, except for greed for oil money.
The US is not on a decline if we get rid of the Republicans running it now.
