C is a very flexible, powerful and efficient programming language. It's a relatively 'low level' programming language, meaning that it can be used to control the hardware on the system it's running on to a much finer degree than you could with a higher level language such as BASIC. The code it produces is also generally faster than that produced by higher level languages. At the same time it's more flexible, scaleable and understandable to humans than most other low level languages such as assembly language.
For these reasons, it's often the language of choice when writing operating systems, games or software that runs on embedded devices with limited hardware. If you intend to work in any of these fields then knowing C is pretty much a must.

The C language is a very powerful and low level programming language that is used in the programming of a lot of applications and such for computers. A lot is possible with C that is not necessarly possible with other languages and someone with a good understanding of it can create things that can not only cause the computer to do things, but control the computers hardware itself. I myself only have a basic knowledge of C from working on a university engineering degree and this year and working on C# which is new and object oriented and implements a lot of new ideas and seems to be picking up popularity quickly.

C language is a basic software language though it is not used in any big applications it used to introduce software languages to students. without this if you go further to study you may fell difficult and in some circumstances you man not even understand itself.
