Laptops, for the most part, cannot be upgraded with the exception of the hard drive and memory. If you wish to upgrade the video card you are out of luck, those are built into the motherboard.

Video cards usually need to be replaced by a new one to achieve an upgrade. I usually remove it's programs first, then remove the card. Follow the direction on your new card. Not many laptops can upgrade their video, so review your specs carefully.
As for the laptop, simply run the free program at http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/
to see what memory can be used. Be prepared to give up that 16mb chip if you want a new 512mb or 1gb unit. And be prepared for a smoother operating pc!

i have never tried to replace a graphic card in a laptop, so i can't recomment how to, but I have replaced Harddrive, keyboard, screen, memory of laptops, so I can show you how to on memory.
Close down the screen, turn the laptop over, you'll see a few compartment with couple screws on each one. One of them is memory compartment, the other is for HD. Unscrew the screws, remove the plate, you'll see your memory module. To remove it, on both sides of it, gentle pull the locking away from the memory sideway, the memory module will snap up, gently pull it out, try not to touch the yellow circuit part, it's best to hold on the sides of it. Look at the labels, see what type of memory it is, look for something that said DDR (or DDR2) PC3200, etc...this is the type of your memory, it will also tell you how much memory is it, like 512mb, 1024mb (sometimes will say 1GB). Now, you would need to know what is the max of memory you can have so you can buy just right upto the max, but never more than max your computer allowed to.
Before you do all those above, go to http://www.crucial.com, let the site scans your computer, couple mins later, it'll tell you, how much memory you have installed, what is your max, what type of memory it uses, etc....right all that down. Remember I told you about DDR-PC3200 or something similar early, compare them, see if they are matched. Head to your computer store, buy the memory. Say, if your computer said you can have up to 2gig of ram, since u have 1 of 512, and u want to max it out, and your computer has 2 slots, each will hold 1gig, then u would need to buy 2 of 1gig each. Put them in is fairly easy too. Just stick the gold end in, make sure u line up the cut part of the ram with the slot, stick them in at 90 degree angle, push the mem in as far as u can, but not too much force, then press the memory down to lock with the 2 side locks. Do the same with the other one. Screw the cover back in. Turn on your computer, right click My Computer, select Properties, here will tell how immediately how much memory do you have now. It should said either 2048 (or close to it) or 2Gb. Congratulations. You've done it. Well done! :)
