My PC was infected yesterdy by something called SpyDawn. It was suggested somewhere in Yahoo Answers that Lavasoft's Ad_ware SE Personal would remove it. I ran it as well as Spyware Doctor by PC-Tools and McAfee's Antivirus package. 'SpyDawn' has been removed but my problem is that an irritating FLASHING blue circular icon keeps appearing on my task bar everytime I restart my windowsXP. I can disable it ('Always Hide') but it comes back again when I re-start Windows. Can anyone help, please. How do I remove that small icon blue circle with a '?' always flashing from the task bar and not merely 'disable it' ? How d I remove it from my task bar and preferable from my PC altogether ?

Switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it. All the following programs are free for home use;

You need to install one firewall.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out.

OMG, are you crying? Seems like you are.
Go to Control Panel. Go to Add/Remove Programs. The Installed Programs list will show up. Scroll until you find that suspicious name, or blue logo thing. Remove it. Then, close that and go to your desktop. On your desktop, hold Control, Alt, Delete and Windows Task Manager will show up. Go to processes and end processes that are from a Local Service Network. If you also suspect malicious processes, then delete those too. But don't delete all, as this is what is running your computer. If this procedure fails, after you're restarted your comp., then reboot your computer from the very begining by hitting F6. You can also set your computer to an earlier time. But that might now delete the blue thing you're talking about. Hope this helps.

SpyDawn, is a rogue anti-spyware program and is a clone of VirusBurst and SpyCrush. It can download and install without your consent through a Trojan. SpyDawn will display fake security alerts or notifications to trick you to buy the Paid Version of SpyDawn. http://www.spywareremove.com/removeSpyDawn.html has more information about SpyDawn and it's removal. Hope it will give you useful information.
