i was shopping online at Victoria secrets at my college dorm and it was working fine but then all of a sudden my internet wouldnt connect. i have shopped online from VS plenty of times in my dorm but this was the first time it shut off randomly. so can they like see what i see too and then shut off internet access personally to my computer? i am really freaking out here!!! anyone who knows anything about computers let me know please!!

Most schools that provide internet to their students run a proxy server. A proxy server is a relay station to the internet that takes your requests for pages, sends the request out under it's own name and then relays the response back to your system. This is done for various reasons mainly for security. Proxies can be setup to maintain a log of where every computer asks to go and the response. Typically, if a proxy denies service you will get a message that states you are attempting to access a restricted site and that you have been blocked. If that message does not appear it could be that either the website is down, the path to the website could not be found or that it just took too long for the request to be answered. Ask your IT department about it.

Hi Haras, Yes they can. There is tracting cookie that knows where you go and what you are looking at. You need to run a virus test to get rid of it. You never know what you will pick up going to site to site. I run a test everytime i am done with my laptop and it has found a few tracting cookie and deleted them. I hope this helps you.

Yes, there is spy software out there that lets people do that. It could have just been a coincidence too. Check with your IT department or whatever at your school.
