Can't you get a job at McDonald's ???
How about Walmart ?
Wendy's ? Burger King? Sears? JC Penney's ?
Even minimum wage in NY, you would bring home more than you are now.

This person never said why he pays child support and I find it incredible how some assume he's a "deadbeat" dad. People do have children from a marriage that didn't work out, and that is why they pay support!!
I would recomend though that you contact the Child Support Division as soon as possible. Pay something each week, even if it's not the full amount. If you are paying arrears, try to pay the current and discuss with them how you will pay the difference in a timely manner. Keep the lines of communication open with CSED and with the other parent.
And, check out other agencies for help--Food Stamps, help with utilities, and Unemployment should have information on getting help finding a job. Check out some temp agencies to find work quickly. Take a less paying job and one not in your field if you have to until you find something else.
Good luck!

your child support amount must be from when you were working, before you 'suddenly' became laid off. that or your arrears are out of control. but since there are changes, you can request a hearing (call your caseworker) for review of the case. ask if you can have an emergency hearing (some states do) because of your situation.
until then,
1) move in with a friend, parent, a peer also 'laid off'
2) get a roommate
3) call the 'homeless prevention' agency in your area/state. they are supposed to prevent that from happening.
4) that small amount, you are over qualified for welfare cash, but may qualify for other programs, such as heating assistance, electric assistance, food stamps, rental assistance (section 8) etc. ask your social services rep and call your states board of public utilities (or what ever its called in your state).
social services can also cut you a one time check for your back rent owed. if they dont offer these things (some dont freely offer what is available), contact your local assemblyman and he can push the issue with social services (can make them help you).
5) contact all area churchs; find the local food bank at one. go weekly. this will free up money for the rent/electric.
6) contact the salvation army. they help with just about everything.
7) the red cross helps with autos; sometimes they have cars donated and sell them for next to nothing.
8) spring is coming, and with it jobs. just hang in there a little bit longer.

So you are unemployed and did not know it was going to happen? You sound like my ex - he is unemployed every time a garnishment is put in place. What about your children? DO you not care that they could become homeless too? Of course not, because their other parent is taking care of them FULL time without a break while you sit around and collect a check. I do not feel sorry for you. If $242 is not enough to live on then GET A JOB!

the only way out of this mess is if you get a job as soon as possible.
i've seen on tv a show about welfare, unemployment and ohter such issues. my advice for you is to go to the local (NYC) authorities and ask them whether they have some reintegration to work programs. in the show i saw that in some states (like MAS) there are special programs for people on childsupport, where they get daycare for the kids, a chance to take part on a training into a new profession and they can help you finding a place to work too.... in the show there was a woman who got a new job this way. moreover the kids got their helthcare paid too, which is a good thing, right?:)
i hope NY has such a program too.... and that such program that you can apply to. GOOD LUCK!

Your state of employment has nothing to do with the responsibility you have towards your child. I suggest you get a job flipping burgers or something. You must support your child....just like you would if you were living in the house with him.
Anyone can work who really wants to.......

Get any kind of a job and get it quickly:"permanent" or temporary, full time or part time. Park cars, bag groceries, stock shelves, wait tables, clean up...whatever.
Even if the job is way below your qualifications, get it anyway while waiting for a better one. It's better than either going homeless or reneging on your child support.
Good luck and God bless!

Get legal advice. Ask for help somewhere. Or find a job quick and make more than what you're getting.

I don't know what to say to you bucko. I would talk with your childs mother, and tell her your situation if she doesn't understand I wouldn't pay until I get a job.
