Do you think World War II was justified?

Is this the one exception you have to war?

Do you think that Hitler's multiple invasions after European leaders tried to make peace with him justified the war?

Do you believe something as horrible as the Holocaust is grounds for a war or do you have no exceptions?

Do you believe in trying to make peace no matter what?

I'm just curious to hear your thoughts.

Thank you.

No war is justified.

Hitler could not have fought his war if it were not for Western countries like Britain and the US who supported him in the beginning because he was against Communism. Britain even supplied aero-engines in the 1930s which were used in the prototype ME109 and 'Stuka' aircraft.

WW2 was not fought because of the massacre of the Jews (although many people fighting on the Allied side thought it should have been). Jewish refugees were refused entry to British and American ports, even though Hitler's persecution of them was well-known. After the end of the war it was a useful propaganda tool to show how bad the Nazis had been, but Stalin had murdered at least as many people as Hitler and yet Britain, France and the US welcomed him as an ally.

Yes, I do believe in trying to make peace no matter what. If more people were willing to refuse to follow what their governments tell them, there would be no more war.

On the eve of WW1 there were massive anti-war demonstrations all over Europe, mostly by workers who did not see the point of being sent off as cannon-fodder to kill and be killed by other workers.

The trade union leaders were absolutely scared stiff by this show of international solidarity and appealed to people's sense of national pride, saying how patriotism was superior (in their view) to class interest. Sadly, many people who had previously opposed the coming war supported this view. Result: 10 million dead, and the way paved for an even bloodier war that killed 60 million.

My only problem with World War II is that America got involved too soon. We should have let Hitler and Stalin destroy each other than taken them both out. Then we wouldn't have Communism in Cuba, China, North Korea, or Vietnam these days.

A war to eliminate those tyrants was probably justified, but FDR instigated our early entry into the war to protect himself because his Socialist policies were failures (which can be expected of Socialism).

I don't think wars should be fought just to fight wars. The only wars America should have fought were the Revolution (the right to revolution was justifiably used, but amazingly our government today is far more abusive than Britain was and nobody even considers doing anything to stop it) and World War II (provided we had entered later). I don't think the Civil War was even justified because everybody else ended slavery peacefully. Why did America need a war for what even the British did peacefully?

Wars are a waste unless they're fought for a good reason and not just to fight wars. If America were attacked by some Totalitarian power, I'm certain every half-decent American would be ready to use guerrilla tactics against their army. Armies just can't handle guerrilla warfare.

Britain can be proud that they knew the right thing to do and did it .See the difference here is that as you say Hitler did the invading and murdering,so what are we supposed to do let more powerful who think they know better go round bullying and invading countries, but one thing we should have learned from WW2 that sometimes is that you cant go around invading countries because you don't like their government because you will piss the rest of the world of.
