I have heard that after one starts having sex, there is a chance that the problem of irregular periods is solved (unless one is pregnant ofcourse) How far is this true?

that is not true they can still be irregular. a lot of women concerned about this generally go see their doctor and go on the pill to make it regular

I was irregular until 28 years old and has been sexually active since 21. It didn't help me.

Okay, while I don't claim to be an expert, I don't think this is true. I would recommend getting on a form of birth control. ask your gynocologist about it.
