there are car seats which can be used from 6 months onwards in a front facing position. the most important thing is weather ur babies neck is stable or not and if it is can he/she sit without support if yes then it is time to switch over to bigger car seats which are front facing. there are also car seats which can be used in front facing and rear facing position you can even buy these .
i think the best will be to take help of ur nearest baby store who keep car seats.

There are car seats that you can purchase that are multipurpose. Look for a 3 in one type seat. One that will accomodate infants, toddlers and children all in one. I got mine at walmart and I really enjoy it. I had to switch seats a little early (9months) cause my little one has reached the 20 pounds limits of the baby infant seat. When I went for her 9 month check up I asked my Dr if I could face her forwards he responded you can if you wish but didn't recomend it. He said it this way, which do you prefer if you got in an accident... broken legs or a broken neck. So she'll be facing backwards for another little while. Good luck with you shopping!

They have car seats that you can use from 5 to 40lbs they just have adjusting front and rear facing. that is birth to like 2-3 years old when you buy the car seat it will tell you when you can switch directions it faces but I'm almost positive they at least have to be 1 year old.
