Or does this complicate things at work. Does it make a difference?

OUTSIDE of work completely.. I guess it is O.K. to have a few work-related acquaintances but you should leave your personal life at home.

It is considered very unprofessional depending on the "corporate culture" at your workplace. The more conservative your job, the more unprofessional it is. Friendships and relationships at work also create conflict-of-interest and fraternization issues that are always difficult to deal with and often end in someone being fired.

I have acquaintances @ work and Friends outside of work. There is a difference in the two!

Preferably both but if I have to choose, it would have to be outside of work. Some people just can't separate personal relationships from professional differences.

nice question! I prefer friends at work, because i work graveyards, and if i didn't have friends here, i might go crazy when i reach my answer limits, plus who would buy the pizza? and outside of work, i have my baby and my husband a couple of friends, and that's all i need. i'm very content, and since i've found all of you, i'm even more content!
which do u prefer?

Outside of work because then you don't get tied up in all the drama at work!

As the boss, I am not allowed to fraternize with the employees. However, if things were different, there are some fine people at the job that I would like to socialize with.

i like to have both, it makes things easier at work if you get on with people and then if you leave its nice to know you left with friends but relationships at work do complicate things!
