I always wondered.. LOL.. Someone is wearing a long beard, is it of anybody's business?
HIJAB is a word derived from the triconsonontal root H-J-B, meaning to cover. Religiously, what to cover, as far as a Muslim woman is concerned, are the hair and the bosom; a Muslim woman can show her face, hands and ankles. In no way this public dress code is going to hinder her from doing her daily chores.
NIKAB is an innovation emphasized by the ottomans that ruled the area for a long time, and supported, or I may say accepted as the Arabs, being desert people, used to cover the face while riding horses or walking in the desert to protect their faces from the blowing fine sands. But does Islam enforce this under normal circumstances like living in a city? NO. It is your choice.
In Islam, HIJAB is in fact a sign of chastity, respect and obedience to the provision of the religion. Catholic nuns were their cloth in the same way and I never heard a fuss about it, head scarf was a fashion during the 60's and women adopted it. I have seen European, Russian, and Ukrainian Peasant women dressed up in the same way; why the big fuss then when Muslims are concerned?
So why some countries and individuals are'nt?
1. Because it is a religious duty. Atheism is spreading around, like fire in a hey stack, attacking everybody Jews, Christians and Muslims alike.
2. Because it is Islamic; a religion mostly misunderstood and maliciously attacked.
3. Because of the continuation of an attack campaign waged by biased Christians hundreds of years ago; intentional defamation.
4. Because of the ceaseless effort of secularism to enforce itself on people; it has succeeded so far to a great extent.
The list goes on and on.

This is because people do not understand the history and philosophy behind a thing and jump to preconceived notions. Interestingly "hijab" does not mean just a woman covering her head, it also applies to a lot of things for men and some more things for women.

I see nothing wrong with hijab as you can still drive, go to college, get a job, and walk around the community. I am against men controlling women, but if Muslim women choose to wear it out of religious tradition, that is their right and their choice.
I suppose you could still do all of this with nijab, but I suspect that most Muslim women do not want to walk barefoot three feet behind men, eyes down, led by his command to wherever he wants, wearing a veil.

I usually agree with feminists but this is just taking it a tad too far. Suppose they are being forced by their father, brothers, or husband, that I am a against but if Muslim women wear it out of free will what's the problem? If they have no problem with wearing it why should we?

because they fear Islam and hijab is a sign of Islam , so they think any one with hijab and white dress is a terrorist...they have been fed with hatred against us, but if we go around naked then its fine with every one its a sign of freedom .

because most people are liars, telling us that we have freedom of religion and the very thing that is religious to us is denied to us. and to the guy who answered first. what makes you think i walk around a man bear feet?? you are stupid. we are not controlled. we have rights and freedoms. dont look on us with pity but look up to us with admiration, because we know how to respect and be respected.
