Drink lots of hot tea, with no sugar or milk. And pratice singing, but don't tear your voice up. Do your scales everyday, and drink lots of water.

What happened? Life and adulthood happened. Welcome to the real world I guess. Since you really want to go far with your singing, try hiring a vocal coach and this way, he or she should be able to help you with breathing techniques, voice lessons, and the proper way to hit those high notes. And hopefully, you'll learn all the crap you need to go far. Be prepared to spend a little cash. Stay in school though, and get a degree. Just in case you couldn't get your singing voice back, you have not only something to fall back on, but a great safety net.

Is there anything that you did (like yelling, screaming and cheering for a favorite team, not practicing for a long time) that might affected your voice? Not practicing in a long time can affect your voice, but it will only be temporary until you train your voice again. If not, it can also be caused by sickness, like getting a sore throat, laryngitis, or even by forcing your vocal cords, and you might need to get checked by a doctor. Also, remember that your voice must come from your stomach, that means breathing deep and letting the air go through your vocal cords. This is more effective than just letting the notes come from your throat.
If you don't want to go to the doctor, mix warm water with salt and gargle with the solution, this will help you to alleviate the pain in your throat. Honey and lemon (only if you are not allergic to honey), can help you smooth the pain too.

I've heard of singers damaging their voices by singing incorrectly. Even though it may sound good, there is a right way and a wrong way to sing.

I'm not exactly sure how this is done, but a visit with a local vocal teacher may help straighten you out.

good luck
