no, dont be offended (although its a natural instinct), they just tryin to tell you how it is, without the intent of any malice. just gettin you to think about the topic and make you realise that this is how you go about it, and to think of a different way you could handle it. dont know if ive explained my answer very well, but i know wat im tryin to say and hope you do too.

I do understand. I have always found that the people who begin a statement with those words tend to say something offensive and usually pointless (ie they didn't need to say it in the first place). If someone just comes out and tells me their problem with me, it's fine and we deal with it. These are usually the people that wouldn't say "I don't mean to offend you, but...".

I don't know why it is, but I agree with you.

They say it because they do not want to intentionally hurt your feelings, however there is something they wish to discuss with you (of a delicate nature) maybe they think they are bringing something to your attention that they feel needs to be addressed.

Try to look at the point and not get all emotional

That's because they know it will offend you, so they are asking you to pardon their statement. If you get offended mostly by verbal sayings you honestly need to get over that feeling, quick!

the response is that if the comment was inconsiderate or uncalled for -that their opinions don't matter as you don't respect their views. i find they are the ones offended even though they initiated the disrespect.
