I am also wondering if Thailand and the Philippines are both Third World countries - why are there more tourists in Thailand than here?

As a tourist destination, Thailand is definitely ahead of the Philippines because :
1) their tourism authorities are doing a better job;
2) if I'm a tourist from the West, I'd rather go to Thailand because their culture is more "oriental" than that of the Philippines;
3) shopping is more affordable in Thailand -- maybe because of lower taxes being imposed by their government
4) if you've been to Patpong, you'll know what i mean (2 words - sex sells).

Thailand isn't as polluted as the Philippines. Both countries have a lot to offer the tourist. What I like about the Philippines is that English is almost spoken and understood all over.
The fact that my wife comes from the Phils probably plays a major part in my choice.

Your holiday money WILL go lots better in Thailand. Why ? because of the fact Thais have found available is not any experience in ripping off the vacationer as they gained't come back and could tell their acquaintances to no longer go the two. The Filipino hasn't learnt this lesson yet and jumps at any foreigner for a speedy score no longer thinking that if i seem after this guy for a clever fee or fee on the instant, he will come back--and with acquaintances and spend extra day after today. The Filipino can not carry close this theory and can't see previous the fast score. Tourism, genuine holiday making , sight seeing tourism in Thailand is extremely great and a great area of the Thai economic equipment. As to the Philippines ? maximum western vacationers understand this and additionally understand, going to the PI is one long conflict with grasping, rip off proprietors.fee for money for a competent holiday--?? Thailand actual.

There are a lot of negative publicity about the Philippines. But I do believe foreigners esp backpackers and adventure-seekers are already eyeing the Philippines as the next destination. Thailand is getting crowded already. "Philippine Islands" needs to be promoted aside from Boracay's powder-like whitesand beach which is already turning too commercialized, if you want a dream vacation there's Palawan group of Islands, Panglao, Bantayan Is., Malapascua, Puerto Galera etc.
With 7, 107 Islands to discover and about 60% of it are not yet explored (and exploited-Thank God!).
But in fairness to Thailand, I still find Koh Phi Phi, one of those things that amazes you.

Thailand is more advanced in terms of economy and infrastructure.
The Philippines is better!

in terms of tourism, yes they're ahead than the philippines but in other aspects, education ,craft,culture and the like , the philippines has much to offer than thailand.

Philippine tourism is just taking off and trying to clean up its image.
On the other hand, Thai tourism has been promoting itself for a number of years already so it has a head start.
