My hamsters used to do that all the time! Im assuming it has got out of the cage somehow? If so then put its cage on the floor, with a big bowl of food in it and it will soon climb back in.

Don't put its cage on the floor or what will happen is that it will go in and drag all its food and bedding out to whatever hidey-hole it has found. Hamsters have terrible eyesight, but a great sense of smell - the best thing to do is make a hamster trap for it by getting a bowl or basin with high enough sides that it can't climb out, and creating an easy to climb "staircase" up to it with books, boxes etc. Put food, some of its bedding and a treat like some carrot or apple into the bowl. The hamster will smell the contents and try to get into the bowl. Once it's in, it can't get out. This works, honestly!

lay out some food in side of a live mouse trap catcher that cathes mice unharmed , u can buy those see thru type , or tear up the house and search every corner, from closet to cooset under the bed under the sofas couches chairs , probly a lot of work for a hamster, or just go about your normal routines and hope he crawls in bed with you by accident and then you can put him back in his cage. pleas make sure if you have a cat um lock him were he can't get the hamster, were ever he may be lurking, oh look for hamster trails to find out wee hes been were he has not ect.

tell ur son not to worry, just close all the doors in the house, put seeds and bedding on the floor in every room and every now and then, go into each room and search for hamster signs, (poo, discarded seeds, ect) and check everywhere in the room, good luck in finding ur hamster!!! my hamster coco, ran away after being in 1 of those stupid crittertrial cages that always wobbled. he escaped from our shed and i have some bad news, if ur sons hamster has managed to get outside, i'm afraid he might not come back as he might have been eaten by a cat, bird, dog or other animal or has been hit by a car, or died from starvation and hunger.

I wish u all the luck in the world 4 finding ur missing hamster!!!

I used to let my hamsters OUT as a kid so i'm a pro.

1: stack some books up in a "stair" type fashion.
2: Get a large pickle jar - preferably glass
3: lean the jar up against the "stairs" - make it tilted just enough so that the hamster won't feel like he's jumping straight down, but steep enough he couldn't jump back out. (you can use a towel or something to wrap around the bottom so it doesn't shift.)
4: put food in the bottom of the jar
5: sit back and wait.

oh dear bet its under the floor. my hamsters were always escaping but i had a retriever cat who used to catch them for me ( alive ) failing this listen carefully you may be able to hear it scurrying about. if you leave food down you must be watching otherwise it will collect it and take the meal to its new digs. its a case of patience and luck if it does come out of hiding be quick to block his escape cause if you dont catch it it will head straight back there. once i put a bucket with the amsters favourite food in it with a sort of ladder on the outside to climb up but no way of getting back out it is worth a try but give the hamster a soft landing on the inside. hope you find the little blighter

fill a bucket or deep tub with bedding (for a soft landing) and some sliced apple. Build some 'stairs' to the top of the bucket using books then leave overnight. hamsters have a very good sense of smell and will go looking for the apples fall into the bucket and be trapped. x x

My hamster escape two times for me, and I always found him hiding within my drawer, and sleeping in the corner of the wall inside my closet. Hope this helps a bit, you can also try luring your hamster with some food like the above posts, it worked for a friend of mine who gave me his baby hamster.

When my hamster used to go missing we would close all the doors and leave little piles of sunflower seeds, 5 in each pile, in every room near the skirting boards. Check periodically to see if any have been taken and then you will know which room/ piece of furniture.

good luck!

This happened to me when i was little and my prents only found it when they heard a noise and he was eating a huge hole in our carpet!

I would what that other person said and put its cage/bedding on the floor or close to the ground and put some fresh fruit or hamster treats inside.
