Life is possible in anytime in the universe, contracting and expanding. The universe now is expanding due to and after the BigBang...Later, the BigCrunch will cause the universe to begin shrinking. Until the shrink part reaches earth, I think we'll have no problem in living.

current observation show the universe is still expanding faster than expected, and with your question ...
obviously YES life is possible in an expanding universe
on the other hand
figuring about matter distribution and observed redshift PLUS a kind of evidence that the universe would contracting there would be something wrong in the way the universe would work, and i would say it would effect gravitation as we know it and NO in a collapsing universe we would be dust, cause gravitation would have pulled us into the sun ... or am i wrong ?

The universe is likely in a state contraction at this time.
Life requires ,likely, the environment that we see around us.
The time span between expanding and contracting is vast and will have no impact on the existence of life as long as the environment remains the same.

Life and contracting or expanding universe are two different thing. You need few condition or element, for e.g. water, air etc. for living. However, contraction of universe can imbalance nature, so does life.

no, i mean if its possible only thru expanding then when contracting it becomes nothing, the word contract saying becoming smaller to shrink, then where would the universe be if it didnt expand??? ;@
