No, of course not, she's not losing anything unless she chooses to. That's just tradition to announce them as Mr and Mrs Joe Smith (or whatever his name is). Nowadays, most women I know that are married are very much their own person, with their own life, career, personality and yet are devoted wives and mothers. I don't think the two concepts (devoted wife/mother vs being an individual person with their own career/ideas/personality) are mutually exclusive. A woman REALLY can be both.
Being married doesn't necessarily mean the woman is some kind of Stepford Wife with zero personality. If she is that way, she has chosen to be that way and no one has made her that way.
My wife is feisty, funny, intelligent, personable and has never had a problem expressing her tastes or desires or wishes and yet she's a devoted wife and mother. It CAN be done.
Tradition is not such a bad thing. Often, traditions are what bind us as a society, they tie us to our ancestors and the past.

Engels said that marriage is legalized prostitution. You can pretend marriage is equal, a partnership, but the reality is it is an evolving dinosaur of an institution. It was meant I think to protect women from poverty, and to provide for their children. I think being a wife is like being an object. Sure, it depends on the man. But look at any individual woman - woman is the n word of the world, John Lennon said.

It depends on the woman and the man, but the only thing she looses is her surname, but like in any relationship, may it be marriage or long term relationship, when you enter a relationship the concepts of "him and me, her and me" somewhat dissapears, it might cease to exist cause a new concept will surface, it is the concept of "us" on every decision you make you will no longer just think of yourself but your other half as well, but getting married doesnt mean that you cant be a bit independent as well, you can do things independetly as long as you dont neglect, hurt or abuse your other half, but like I said it depends on the person/s

By taking another last name, a woman is losing nothing unless she's a Women's Studies major. If you feel that bad about it, then just hyphenate your name and let the world know how insecure you are.

No, but women must be taught to say no to the wrong men and stand up for themselves. Women are not doormats for men to wipe their feet on. They must be nurtured and appreciated. This is why communication is such a big issue for women in relationships.
Granted, it is easier for women than for men, it doesn't mean men should not try to make an effort. Like romantic gestures-flowers, candy, a nice home-cooked meal, a getaway in France-real intimacy is appreciated. Women like gentlemen but they like guys who play with the kids, discipline them (the kids), pay the bills, don't ask for too much and take out the garbage when asked.

There are many woman who keep their name. I think changing your last name it is a part of a tradition, and yes it used to mean that woman when getting married becomes property of another man, that is her father gave her away to another man.I don¸t know what to think of it ,honestly...
