If you've exhausted other possibilities, such as eating habits, lifestyle, etc. You could try Melatonin. It's an herbal supplement. The body releases melatonin to signal sleepiness, normally triggered by darkness. However, if your body doen't release enough melatonin it makes it difficult to feel sleepy, fall asleep, and stay asleep. I actually sleep better in the day time because of an inbalance of melatonin in my system. Also, since it's not a prescription drug, and something that's natrually in your body, side affects and addictions are next to none. It won't knock you out like a shot of NyQuill, but it will help to smooth out your night. hope that helps!

Take a hard look at your lifestyle. Most people aren't aware that caffeine can stay in the body for up to 14 hours. Do you nap in the day time? When and how long you take naps can reset the body's circadian rythms and affects when you feel tired again.

Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. If you are having trouble sleeping, don't stay awake in bed, get out of bed - do something relaxing like read. Power Sleep, by Dr. James Maas, is an excellent source of info on the topic and good betime reading as well.

If none of that works, consider asking your Doc for a referral to a sleep clinic. Your sleep specialists will tend to know much more about how to help than your average MD. Good luck!

Iam not a psychologist, but the idea of a person is better when it comes in the brain,
Sleeping a pattern that a human needs in order for her/him to be able to regenerate the lost energy in the time shes/hes spending in the day nor night.
Apparently your, physician nor your psychiatrist would tell you something about it, but the main reason is that, you are experiencing a disturbance, which we may call, INSOMNIA.
There are a lot of factors that our environment give us each day, sometimes we forget the things in the reason that we are already tired.
Sometimes you may not have to take any pills, because frequent use to it may cause you to be dependent on the drugs.
The main point is, in these busy world, try to get some time for your self, take a stroll outside your town nor place, in place were great scene are available (nature my friend). When you cant realy bare it, ask God.

Stop coffee and tea. Do not take naps. Check your medicines, some of them make you alert. Eat a banana and drink a glass of milk in the evening. Nuts are good too especially almonds. Read a light magazine in bed till you sleep.

You must first analise what is causing you sleeplessness.
1.Lack of adequate physical exercise
2.Mental tensions due to any serious problems.
*Good physical exercise first in the morning, never in the evening.
*No coffee or coke or other carbonated drinks after afternoon.
*Do some yoga or meditaion in the early evening (never yoga late evening as it activates the body).
*Eat moderately in the night and have moderate Drink, before dinner.
*Sleep in dim lit room and have soft music to relax.
I had earlier similar problem and I was able to overcome with above practice.
Initially it takes time, but you will be able to overcome it.
Good luck

Dear Boo. I know exactly what your going through as I have suffered with insomnia for many years. I only take meds as a last resort or if i dont sleep for several days in a row. One thing that does help sooth my mind is running a "sleep mate" machine at night. JC Penny sells them online for about 50.00. Its a small device that creates a white noise sound, it may be just what you need. If you need help finding one email me at gina3127@yahoo.com....i'd be happy to help.
