Try Ranma 1/2. It is an older anime and there's lots of it. They do get a little nonsensical at times, but overall it is just plain funny. The main story line is about a guy who falls into a cursed spring that makes him turn into a girl whenever he gets splashed with cold water. If that seems too over the top, then Ranma may not be for you. I kinda like the fact that there is lots of hand to hand fighting in this series and not much 'special powers' type stuff. If you do decide to check it out, you can watch it on gofish.com.

"You've got Mail," "Sleepless in Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally." Wait, are these too magical in the sense that there's a lot of coincidence involved, along with destiny and fate? I know I'm leaving something out that would better answer your question. If I think of it, I'll come back and edit! However, "When Harry Met Sally" is a classic romantic comedy and presents itself as being quite down to earth!

Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers). It's a manga you can find at your local library. It depends on whether you like anime and manga to know if you will like it. But I recommend it.
