Check that your hard drive is being detected by BIOS on boot up (black/white start screen). If not then you may have a cable or hard drive fault. If its detected by BIOS then the problem may be configuration.

do you have a desktop or a laptop? either way, check it in BIOS on boot. press either the delete key or F2 on boot-up. if the hard drive is not detected, you have to reseat the cables if it's a desktop or reseat the drive itself if you have a laptop. if it's still not detected, you'll then have to replace the hard drive.
