I can relate to your problem. It does take quite a bit of time for back surgery to heal and this may be the case. Some people do continue to have problems, but are functional and work daily. You are in a situation where you have little choice but to accept the advice of your Surgeon. I wasn't quite that lucky. After spending a couple of years seeing orthopedic doctors, I was finally sent to the Neuro Surgeon who looked at my scans and flatly said "there is nothing I can do for you". This was like a death sentence, but I thought it over and made a choice that for me I would continue to walk and walk as much as possible. I have to live with the limitations of only working at things for a certain amount of time and then rest. I have accepted the fact that I cannot do heavy lifting, so I do what I have to in order to not be in pain. Good luck.

Take a look at a book called "Explain Pain" by David Butler. Butler is an Austrailian physical therapist, and he gives an easy to read explanation of how your brain percieves and deals with pain. This may help you with some of your pain issues.

You may do well to be in physical therapy yourself, especially if they can get you into a pool exercise program.

Go to APTA.org, click on "find a PT", and search your home area.

Good luck!

Damn dude what happend? anyway man, just know that God is there for you and your wife will be more understanding than what you think. Don't make your wife feel that you are depressed all the time cause it makes her feel hopeless. Show confidence and be positive thats what she wants to see from you more than anything that you will pull out of this.

Hang in there!
