Hi... Just wanna check. Recently, a friend of mine has re-format his pc... However, she did not have those installation disc except for Window XP (home edition) cd. Now, her sound card driver + ethernet controller couldn't be found. Is there anyway to check the sound card and ethernet controller manufacture, version name, etc without opening up the CPU? I mean just using control panel, bios or anything program to check it. Is there a way of doing?

Well..check to see if this works...right click My Computer...go into Properties...then click Hardware...then click the sound card and NIC (ethernet card) and see if they are listed to the manufacturer...if it is...then just write down the info and go to the manufacturers site or the maker of your puter...and then download the newest drivers and install! If it doesn't show the info..then you could do a search for the computer you own if it was built by a company like Dell...Gateway...etc.... and see if that will get you the info you need...or last but not least...get a philips head driver...open your case up and take a gander at the hardware you are having problems with...just be careful since ya might have to take out the cards to see which ones they are...most likely they are PCI cards and you must make sure you pull them out carefully and touch your hand to the case first to discharge any static elec..

Unfortunately no unless the computer is a name brand like Dell or Gateway. If the computer is name brand then you can go to their website, look up the model and in the support section there will be a link to the drivers needed. If it is a custom job/home made system, then you will need to open the side case and read the make and model of the motherboard.

What kind of computer is it. Is the sound card on the motherboard. If it is you will need the drivers for the motherboard which usually could be found at the manufacture of the computer's website. Installing WindowsXP is pretty good at detecting the latest hardware and I am pretty sure yours are just onboard types
