Because people become jealous and/or insecure about themselves, and then put other people down, or see the negative in other people to make themselves feel better.
I agree with you. Seeing good in people makes me happy.

I hear so many people say this mantra as if it was a cult motto. Why is that? Is it a constant reminder for themselves to please believe it, (If you believe it, then it will happen) or an attempt to deny the reality of their situations.
I can only say this. This belief system is perfectly wonderful and ideal. It does not happen to all humans in all situations all the time. If you happen to be in a position to sooth and comfort someone who was affected by a slight or hurt by an act of other people, try not to be too preachy using these words to them because the general effect to them will be annoyance of you.

I do a little twist in this line of thought. In the rare occassion when I can't find a laudable trait or action from somebody, I nonetheless try to draw a lesson from my understanding of who they are. Experience with others, liked or unliked, good or bad, can almost always have something good come from that experience.
Peace

We cannot see good because the world has shifted from being black and white (good and bad), every aspect of human acts now lies in a range of greys. As a result judgement on what is good is increasingly becoming subjective, more often than not, it is good if i do it....

This means to say that the pursuit of happiness by our reason in search for the absolute truth is never satisfied yet.
There is something negative that we see in them. Maybe they are liars, or anything, this will do it. It is hard to render light feelings to others when they are not telling the truth, no matter how hard they try to please us. Remember, truth sets us all free. Being free is being certain withouts that doubts to be in this state of being is when our reason is totally satisfied.

We do see the good qualitties in others. It is just that when our own frivolity tweaks resonance with good qualities of others, we begin to examime bad qualities in others. Our oveweeing opinion of ourselves puts a mask and does not permit us to take pains to see what is good in others. If we take a realistic view of ourselves and have a compassionate attitude towards others, we may get a better view of others and the good qualities of others may begin to heave in view.

Action by itself is neither good or bad.
Mind associates and brands an action either as good or bad. Mind, when it decides to see goodness in any action it will and the same mind wants to see negativity in any action it will.
It is all in the mind.
