The first time I went, we didn't gamble at all. We just went to sightsee and go on rides. You can spend a whole week just seeing the themed casinos, attractions, exhibits and shows. And I don't even like to shop, but the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and the Venetian's Grand Canal Shops are an attraction in themselves. Must see and do:
Mirage volcano and tiger exhibit
Luxor pyramid, rides, museum
Hilton Star Trek Experience
downtown Fremont Street Experience light/music shows (after dark)
Caesars Palace Roman themed casino
New York recreated in New York, New York casino
cruise the Strip late at night; the lights are awesome
...and you didn't say your age, but the lounge acts in the casinos are almost all free except for the price of a drink, and there are so many shows that you have to see the listings:

There's tons to do--- a lot of people come just for the shows, the pool, the shopping, the buffets, site seeing...and if you have no gambling skills you should learn Pai Gow Poker before you come...lots of action with slow losses...Gambling is Entertainment not an investment strategy...

SHOP! I usually try to go to Vegas once a year because I love their malls and outlets. There are also lots of free shows that go on throughout the day such as at the Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio, etc. If you feel adventurous, you can get a tour of the Hoover Dam. You can also attend shows at the different hotels, go clubbing, eat at all the different buffets/restaurants, or just tour different hotels-many are themed so they make very nice backgrounds for pictures. Las Vegas never sleeps so if you happen to be up at 3AM, theres still lots of things to do. HAVE FUN!

First, it doesn't take skill to throw money into a slot machine. If you'd rather not lose it that fast, then I suggest shopping. There's a lot of that in Vegas. Cesars Forum shops are good. So is the Fashion Mall and the outlet stores.

you don't need skill to gamble. All you need is money. If someone says that they have skill, ask where there their money is. The casino's will teach you how to gamble.

go to the tribal land just north of vegas.it has great canyons to explore on foot and folklore to learn. helo flight to the "hole" (grand canyon) is also good fun. or just drive 2 hours north on the 15 freeway and you'll get to st geaorge utah, fot some different sights. best of all you can always get back to vegas after "roughing it" for a couple of days and live in luxury for the last parts of your vacation. and don't forget hoover dam.
