This is a tougher question than it appears. When you say breakthrough I think lauched him as a power in the industry. For me that movie is Kindergarten Cop. That was the movie that made him a leading man and more importantly a comedic actor. Conan got him seen. Terminator got him rich. The nine movies after that were a series of hit or miss wonders. But, Kindergarten Cop Turned his career up a notch. the budget and his salary went up every movie after that until he went into politics. That to me is what a break through film does for you. he was always famous but now people actually went to a movie to see him act and not just be a straightman for other people or a pale rendition of Dirty Harry.

I would say The Terminator 2, out-does any other movie he has starred in during the career, and the role famous for bearing the butt of jokes now as governor and state executions.

I think with Conan the Barbarian, Arnold got his first big shot at the big screen. But it wasnt until he did Terminator that he captured a main stream audience.

I would have to say Terminator because I think he was very good in it, also it's one of those films that it doesn't matter how many times you watch it you can never get bored of it.

Don't know how you define "breakthough" but the first movie that had his name ABOVE the title was "Commando".

When your name is above the titile, it means that you are now a marketable commodity capable of selling a picture based on who you are rather than what the movie contains.

again you people don't know nothing. Pumping Iron, was his big break, but "The Villian" with was his first big acting role, he either didn't talk or said almost nothing, He was the hansome stranger.(I looked it up, they have his first movie as Herclues of New York)
