~~ For variety I think Utah state has it covered.
The Arches (staggering formations):

Bryce Canyon:

Capitol Reef:

Zion:

Canyon lands (you don't need the Grand Canyon):

~~ Then there is the amazing Badlands in South Dakota, along with Wind Cave.

I choose the above because I haven't been to Alaska.
I see everyone has chosen parks in the western states.
There are some beautiful ones back east too, they are just different.
Arcadia in Maine, The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and Shenandoah NP in Virginia are all very special places.
We are very spoilt for choice.

~~ And for everything in just one place, you have only to visit Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming/Idaho/Montana.
It was the first and is the best NP in the USA.

Alaska's inventory of National Parks is massive. It is also breathtaking. It truly is the Greatland.

I would say California because you have Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Pinnacles National Monument and lots of State parks. The weather and scenery is good most of the year.

Alaska has some of the biggest and best, but its far away. So, I would have to go with Wyoming. Yellowstone and Grand Teton are right next to each other, and in my opinion are 2 of the best in the world. Teton is amazing with its mountains and wildlife. Yellowstone was the 1st in the world and is full of bison, bears, wolves, and geysers. Second place would have to be Utah.
