By uses I mean the concrete uses in one's life. Or, what would one loose if history is not read/learnt?

1. to learn the past and understand the future.

2. history repeats itself. learning history means learning the chain of changes and anticipate the upcoming result.

3. if you don't know history, you don't know who or what you are and your purpose for existence.

4. history is like playing 'connect the dots'...if you don't know where to start, you don't know where and what to follow.

5. history is understanding LIFE itself.

By learning history,

1. you understand how people lived, fought and died in the past,

2. you can avoid making the same mistakes,

3. you develop a sense of perspective of what it means to be human, both the good and the bad,

4. you develop a better appreciation for your culture and other traditions as well,

5. you may even be able to predict some of what people might do in the future, based on their past.

To learn about your family, what our forefathers went through when creating America, to speculate how life will be in the future by drawing from the past, it's a requirement for school and it's also important to be an educated person in society.

to learn what didn't work, what did work, and how to make the best desicions between both. Plus, to be an educated person in the past and therefore the present, and to have a base from which to start from.
