I've noticed that lots of Simpsons merchandise from the early-mid 1990s featured Bart with a light blue tshirt instead of the usual red/orange? Whats the deal with that? Were they trying to make merchandise crip-friendly or something?

In the very beginning, when The Simpsons were featured in the Traycey Ullman Show, Bart had a blue shirt. Maybe it was decided a bit later, after already some companies had bought licenses to produce the merchandise, and already had begun to produce it, that the colour of the shirt should be changed.

More likely someone screw up in the coloring departement.

The Simpsons though play on this wrong color stuff in an episode, with Homer want to calm the bull with Bart's 'blue shirt'.

This is simple.. The Simpson's was a spin-off show.. In the Tracy Altman show, he wore a blue shirt.. When he got his own gig, they changed the color for marketing purposes.
