They start small, locally and work their way up. How do they get their support early on?

It all depends on their social status...

Some are born into political and/or rich families and are handpicked at a young age to go into politics. These ppl have an easy time. Money is not a problem for them and usually their influences are already set up.

Examples of this group are:
* Cheney - Rumsfeld hired him to work in the White House in 1969.
* Rove - Hired in college to work on campaigns
* The Rockefellers
* The Kennedys

The other kind are the ones that start at the bottom, work very hard, acheive things such as being president of their college classes, etc... they earn their respect.
Examples of this group are:
- Bill and Hillary Clinton both.

Notice fundraisers and interviews that say, Hillary CClinton and Barack Obama are on these days. Whenever they appear at an event worth mentioning, people get to think abotu them. That is how they create early support

They join forces with senior politicians and then ditch them when they have enough support.

Politicians always establish networks wherever they go so that they will be able to gain support for their candidacy.
